Barco 3Gbps video production switcher wins Mario Award at NAB 2009

From a field of hundreds of new products at NAB, Barco’s FSN Series multi-format switcher receives one of ten prestigious Mario Awards, given annually by TV Technology Magazine.

Rancho Cordova, CA — 28 April 2009 — Image processing pioneer Barco is proud to announce that the FSN Series, the world's first 3Gbps-ready multi-format video production switcher, has won a 2009 Mario Award for technical excellence and innovation at NAB 2009.

Organized in 1993 and now in their 17th year, the Mario Awards were established to recognize manufacturers whose products represent significant technical breakthroughs — and many of these products have gone on to significantly impact the future of video technology. The awards are named after Mario Orazio, a pseudonym for a nameless engineer and a renowned technology columnist for TV Technology, who pens the industry's most widely read column “The Masked Engineer.” The awards are given out annually at the NAB convention to companies that demonstrate forward thinking and technical excellence in their products.

“Mario scours the NAB show floor for the ten most innovative products that represent the pinnacle of technical achievement. We are proud to present these awards on behalf of the 'Masked Engineer,'” said TV Technology Editor Tom Butts.

“It is a great honor for us to have industry experts recognize our technological achievements amidst a crowded field of excellent products,” said Jed Deame, Vice-President of Image Processing for Barco, North America. “The Mario Award is the most prestigious award at this show, or any video trade show for that matter. More important, this is a truly unbiased and anonymous evaluation, based purely on the technical merits of the FSN switcher and the impact that it will have on the industry. On behalf of the entire team, we're very proud of the work that's gone into developing this truly revolutionary product.”

Additional information on the 2009 Mario Awards are available online at www.tvtechnology.com, and full details will be printed in the May 27 issue of TV Technology Magazine.
