Florida DOT - District 6: digital vision for maximum flexibility provided by Barco
Atlanta, GA - The Florida Department of Transportation, District 6, has a clear vision for expansion of its operations. Soon, its new Traffic Management Center in Miami will be operational. It will feature a 10ft. high and 31 ft. wide monitoring Barco display wall, allowing flexible and interactive view of more than 40 video sources inserted off the network simultaneously, amongst other networked information.
The Florida DOT District 6 is planning to deploy over a 3-year timeframe up to 120-130 field camera’s and up to 43 Dynamic Messaging Systems. Its operations encompass the I-75 highway, as well as the I-195 connector and the notorious US-1. Currently a Gigabit network is already employed with three network nodes, to expand to seven network nodes over the next three years.
Prior to the implementation of the new operations center, Florida DOT-District 6 had a rack cabinet full of decoders for only 13 video channels. The new operations center only needs one rack cabinet including the Barco Argus display wall controller to visualize up to 64 video channels, with simplified cabling.
"Barco is proud to successfully simplify and expand the monitoring operations for Florida DOT, District 6", says Hans Dekeyser, Market Sales Manager Traffic & Surveillance for Barco Control Rooms, continuing "as well as providing the flexibility to decode standard digital video streams in large quantities to a centralized display wall, thus creating substantial savings on digital to analog conversion and switching equipment."
Sean LaNeve, Director Command & Control Group for Audio Visual Innovations, certified Barco partner, says "Installation of the Barco digital streaming video cards was simple and straightforward, especially when compared to the racking and cabling requirements of traditional stand alone decoders."
"Miller Electric Company and TransCore are currently completing the integration of one of the first large-scale, end-to-end digital traffic monitoring systems", says Patrick Shortal, P.E., associate vice president for TransCore, "With FDOT's leadership and visionary design parameters, this will set the example for many traffic control centers nationally."
