Barco installs networked broadcast monitoring system for Spanish Telecinco
IBC Amsterdam - Barco is pleased to announce that leading Spanish commercial TV-station Telecinco has opted for a networked broadcast monitoring system for its news studio control room in Madrid. The contract underlines the customer value of Barco’s revolutionary concept, whereby video sources and metadata are distributed over an IP network throughout the broadcast facility. The networked monitoring system is currently being implemented and will become operational fall 2008.
Spanish Telecinco is one of the country’s leading private TV companies. Set up in 1990, Telecinco is part of the Gestevisión Telecinco S.A. group, a publicly traded company included in the IBEX-35 index. The Group's principal activities are the creation, production and distribution of television programming, and the provision of television edit, outside broadcast and transmission facilities.
To further optimize its news studio control room, Telecinco decided to invest in Barco’s IP-centric broadcast monitoring system. The installation marks the first implementation of this networked broadcast monitoring system in Spain. In a first phase of the project, 72 SDI inputs will be connected to the system, with 12 DVI outputs to be displayed on as many of Barco’s dedicated LCN-47 LCD screens. Ten of these screens are placed in the camera & production control room, with the other two located in the sound control room. In a second phase of the project, another 48 inputs will be added to the system so that in total 200 journalists can access video sources over the network.
A crucial factor in Telecinco’s selecting Barco was the distributed architecture of the networked broadcast monitoring system, whereby high-quality, low-latency distribution of video sources and metadata over an Internet Protocol (IP) network towards multiple screens. “We selected this unique Barco solution because of its decentralized concept,” says Luis Miguel Gonzalez, Project Manager at Telecinco. “The fact that all sources are simply streamed over the network and can be displayed in any room is invaluable to further optimizing our operations. Moreover, we can share the signals between different rooms and locations so that many different people can view and use the same stream of images simultaneously.”
Moreover, through its networked architecture, NBMS allows to save on the total investments needed for monitoring within the facility by significantly reducing the required router capacity and monitoring inputs. Luis Miguel continues “This a future-proof investment. The unlimited flexibility of Barco’s networked broadcast monitoring system allows expanding the number of inputs and outputs unlimitedly, at any point in time, so that our monitoring capacity can grow as we further expand our activities.“
Implementation of the project started on 1 September and the system will be fully operational October 2008.
