Barco-equipped control rooms empower leading US energy service providers in 2008
Duluth, USA – 28 January 2009 – Visualization specialist Barco announces that it installed more than 200 display cubes in US-based utilities and process control rooms in 2008. Major installations include display walls for NV Energy, American Electric Power, Consumers Energy and Knoxville Utilities Board.
Guy van Wijmeersch, Market Director Utilities & Process Control at Barco explains: “Monitoring business-critical processes is what our solutions are designed for. We are pleased that reference customers like NV Energy, American Electric Power, Consumers Energy and Knoxville Utilities Board have put their trust in Barco for the real-time monitoring of their operations.”
Las Vegas-based NV Energy, serving 800,000 electric customers in southern Nevada, will monitor Transmission & Distribution on two 9x2 display walls consisting of 36 Barco OV-815 80” diagonal cubes. Each 9x2 wall will be connected to a Barco Transform controller for a real-time overview of power generation and distribution in the area. Both display walls will remain brightness-balanced and color-balanced continuously using Barco’s unique Sense 6 active color/brightness balance system.
American Electric Power turned to Barco in 2008 for its brand new Transmission Control Center located just outside of Columbus, Ohio. Operators continuously monitor T&D operations 24/7 on two 4x3 and three 3x3 walls, all consisting of Barco OV-815 80” cubes with a dedicated Transform controller connected to each. Each wall remains perfectly color balanced thanks to the Sense 6 active color/brightness balance system which runs on a dedicated PC installed in the base of each display wall and constantly evaluates/adjusts color value on each cube over IP.
Consumers Energy commissioned three Barco display walls in its new Jackson, Michigan T&D Center and another two Barco display walls in its new Grand Rapids facility. Each display wall consists of Barco OV-708 70” cubes and has its own dedicated Transform controller.
Knoxville Utilities Board (KUB), responsible for the distribution of electric, natural gas, water and wastewater services to more than 430,000 customers in East Tennessee, contracted with Barco to implement a real-time overview of its operations. Barco installed an 8x3 display wall, consisting of twenty four Barco OV-515 cubes, which enables operators to keep close watch on KUB's mission-critical operations.
A newly constructed T&D center in Kentucky installed a 14x3 Transmission display wall consisting of forty-two Barco OV-715 70” cubes and an 8x2 Distribution display wall consisting of sixteen Barco OV-715 cubes. Both walls permit the stock-listed company to monitor gas and electricity services for close to 400,000 customers in Louisville and surrounding counties
Hans Dekeyser, VP Sales USA for Barco, concludes: “Barco-equipped T&D control rooms are a reference in the USA, monitoring energy generation and distribution for millions of customers. Our field-proven solutions offer customers 24/7 operational excellence, guaranteeing them peace of mind at all times”.
