Barco Networked Broadcast Monitoring System deployed for the first time in Asia.
Teaming with China’s Guangdong Television, Barco successfully deploys its innovative NBMS.
Beijing, CHINA, 2 March 2009 — Barco, a world leader in visualization and display solutions, has partnered with Guangdong Television (GDTV) in launching its Networked Broadcast Monitoring System. Installation of the NBMS system at GDTV studios in Guangzhou, the capital city of China’s southern Guangdong Province, represents its first deployment in Asia.
Barco's Networked Broadcast Monitoring System (NBMS) enables operators to monitor their broadcast processes and visualize video content in real-time from anywhere in the facility. This innovative solution allows high-quality, low-latency distribution of video sources and metadata over an IP network towards multiple screens, even in separate control rooms, hereby offering ultimate flexibility for broadcast and distribution monitoring. The NBMS is supported by a Broadcast Monitoring Suite (BMS) software package which allows complete system control accessible from any system network connection.
With the installation of Barco NBMS, the GDTV master control room now operates the largest monitoring wall in China’s broadcast industry. The system effectively utilizes 272 SDI/HD-SDI and 4 DVI inputs along with 16 DVI outputs to be displayed on Barco OV-715 70" SXGA+ DLP™ projection modules.
Overall, NMBS enables GDTV production studios and master control rooms to be cost effectively networked together. The system improves on the ability to monitor the broadcast process and visualize real-time video content, both in the control room and remotely on PCs and other network-connected devices with user-friendly interfaces.
“Barco’s NBMS offers great flexibility and expansibility, providing GDTV a reliable and efficient platform,” says Lian Jintian, General Engineer. “During last summer’s Olympics in Beijing, we used this system in connecting from Guangzhou’s main control room with a Beijing studio, sharing a variety live feeds. We’ve been very pleased with the result the NBMS has given us.”
“Barco and GDTV have been working together for many months to create this pioneering project”, says Frank Christiaens, President of Barco for Greater China, who was also recently invited to receive an award from GDTV for Barco’s outstanding support during the Olympics. “GDTV is regarded as one of the top 3 broadcasting players in China, and is known to be at the forefront when it comes to new technologies. The fact that GDTV selected our NMBS technology is a clear sign that Barco is the leading visualization supplier in the broadcasting industry in Greater China.”
