Orthogon Assists EADS in Implementing a New Coastal Surveillance System for Estonia
EURONAVAL, Le Bourget, France - Orthogon AG, Stuttgart, which has joined Barco on 1 October 2002, and EADS Deutschland GmbH (European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company), Ulm have signed an agreement for Orthogon to help enhancing the performance of the EADS coastal surveillance system. The EADS Systems & Defence Electronics business unit has been awarded a contract in July 2002 to implement an advanced coastal protection system by the Estonian Ministry of the Interior.
Under the contract Orthogon will furnish a number of software products that will significantly enhance the Estonian Coastal Surveillance capability and improve overall operations. The program includes 20 radar stations, four regional control centers and the national operation center in the capital Tallinn. All facilities are scheduled to be operational by the end of 2004. The system will be primarily used for border surveillance, a crucial factor for Estonia to enter the European Union. The new system is designed to monitor not only all sea and airborne targets, but it will also support fishery control, environmental protection and search and rescue activities. For the first time Orthogon's components will provide software-based radar video scan conversion for sea and air radar channels as well as synthetic targets in an operational setting. This July, EADS awarded Orthogon a contract to develop a new airport surveillance radar system for the German Air Force, and now once again EADS has selected Orthogon as a partner for this important program..gif)
