Call and Diagnosis Center for German Internet Backbone
Deutsche Telekom controls its high performance Internet Backbone in one of the most modern Call and Diagnosis Centers in the German city Ulm. 110 employees in the new Internet Help Desk monitor and control Deutsche Telekom's Internet Backbone round the clock. Detected problems are instantly recorded, thoroughly diagnosed, and possibly forwarded to specialists for further investigation.
Deutsche Telekom's customers are more than 100 Internet Service Providers, among them Deutsche Telekom's T-Online, with more than 11 million users. Moreover, Deutsche Telekom operates Intranets (Virtual Private Networks) for more than 500 corporations.
Kai-Uwe Ricke, CEO Deutsche Telekom, pointed out during the Center's inauguration that this Backbone is the most important basis for the German Internet. There are the same high requirements regarding performance of the Backbone as for the Quality of Services expected by Deutsche Telekom's customers. In the past 1,5 years data traffic on Deutsche Telekom's Backbone increased by more than factor 10.
Deutsche Telekom's Backbone provides bandwidth between 622 Mbit/sec up to 10 Gbit/sec. 74 Points of Presence for Fast Internet and 295 additional PoP for DSL and ISDN customers provide access to Deutsche Telekom's Internet Backbone all over Germany.
Barco's display walls in Deutsche Telekom's new Call and Diagnosis Center ensure an always updated overview over the complex Backbone infrastructure. On two display walls back to back, Deutsche Telekom's specialists monitor all relevant data, network load, shortness, problems etc., ensuring high availability of the Internet Backbone and permanent good Quality of Service in 24/7 operation.
