Barco to supply FD251 20.1” flat panel displays for the J-UCAS X-45 program

KORTRIJK, BELGIUM / DULUTH, USA, 19 November 2003 – Barco has been awarded a significant contract by Boeing for the delivery of 20.1” flat panel displays to be integrated into the mission control stations of the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy X-45 Joint Unmanned Combat Air System (J-UCAS). The FD251 high-performance displays will be used on board the shelter-based mission control station, ensuring optimal visual support for critical X-45 operator decision-making during J-UCAS missions.

Boeing Phantom Works, the company’s advanced research and development unit, headquartered in St. Louis, Mo., selected FD251 flat panel displays because of their excellent performance in highly demanding naval, airborne and ground-based applications. The displays incorporate a state of the art 20.1” LCD and are manufactured using a unique bonding technique, which leads to an optically superior liquid crystal display. Furthermore, the FD251 features Automatic Phase Adjust (APA), a shop-replaceable backlight tray and patented video electronics, providing optimum image quality over the years and through changing environmental conditions. By choosing Barco’s FD251, Boeing also benefits from product continuity and long-term support.

Barco has been providing Boeing with visualization technology for many years and has become a Boeing Gold level supplier. Boeing will start receiving the FD251 units in January 2004.
