Barco inaugurates expanded North American facility
Duluth, GA, April 1st 2004 – Yesterday, Barco celebrated the official opening of an 88,000 square foot (= 8,175 m²) addition to its North American BarcoView facility in Duluth, Georgia. The expansion of the Duluth facility marks the dynamic growth the division BarcoView has known over the past few years and confirms Barco’s confidence in the continued growth of its local operations. BarcoView is active in Medical Imaging Systems, Avionics, Traffic Management and Defense & Security.
The facility’s new expansion consists of a two-story addition, totaling 88,000 square foot. It will house Engineering, Sales and Marketing activities, as well as Customer Service and Warehousing. In addition, the new facility will allow BarcoView to increase production capacity of its high-performance graphics and video controller boards, high-resolution displays and integrated visualization systems for the Defense & Security, and Traffic Management markets. The expansion was critical to effectively answer customer demands in these markets.Several local and governmental dignitaries, including Belgian Ambassador to the US, His Excellency Frans Baron van Daele, along with Barco’s corporate management team attended the Ribbon Cutting ceremony, thereby acknowledging Barco’s continued growth and investment in the local community. On the occasion, Barco North American President, Dave Scott, highlighted the importance of the new, centralized location to further optimize efficiency and ensure BarcoView’s future growth on the American market: "We entered our new Duluth, GA, facility in 1999, with a five-year plan for the next expansion. We reached that point in only four years, thanks to the phenomenal growth of BarcoView business units in the Defense & Security, Air Traffic Management, Medical Imaging, and Avionics markets, despite the challenges in the markets and worldwide economies brought on by the events of September 11, 2001."
