BARCO’s Rugged Displays Selected by Hughes for U.S. Army’s TRAILBLAZER Program
WASHINGTON, DC, October 13, 1997 -- BARCO Display Systems has been awarded a multi-million dollar contract by Hughes Defense Communications, Ft. Wayne, Indiana to supply BARCO’s 19 inch rugged displays for the U.S. Army’s AN/TSQ-138, TRAILBLAZER program.
TRAILBLAZER is a high capacity ground-based signal intelligence (SIGINT) system which is mounted in a shelter carried on a 5-ton wheeled vehicle. The TRAILBLAZER system searches for, intercept, record, identify, locate and report on radio signals in the HF/VHF/UHF frequency ranges to provide intelligence information to battlefield commanders.Hughes Defense Communications will integrate dual BARCO MPRD 9651 19 inch displays into the shelters of the TRAILBLAZER ground stations and the airborne QUICKFIX system. Upgrades to the design of the TRAILBLAZER system will enable it to maintain operational capability until the Army’s Ground Based Common Sensor Heavy (GBCS-H) is fielded. BARCO also provides the MPRD 9651 display for both the GBCS-H and GBCS-L (Light) systems.
The BARCO MPRD 9651 rugged color display was chosen by Hughes Defense Communications due to the proven performance of the display to meet the program requirements and for commonality interoperability amongst the Army’s major mobile intelligence and electronic warfare systems. The MPRD 9651 monitor meets stringent vibration, shock, and temperature environmental specifications while maintaining a compact, low-volume ruggedized package.
Hughes has begun receiving deliveries of the BARCO displays with final shipments expected by the end of the fourth quarter 1997.
