Northrop Grumman Selects BARCO’s 17” Rugged Displays for U.S. Army’s Firefinder Upgrade Program

KORTRIJK, BELGIUM, August 21, 1997 -- BARCO Displays Systems has been selected and has received a significant contact by Northrop Grumman, Rolling Meadows, Illinois, to supply BARCO’s 17 inch rugged color displays for the U. S. Army’s Firefinder AN/TPQ (V)8 Electronics Upgrade Program.

Northrop Grumman will integrate the BARCO MPRD9643 into the Operations Central which will be installed in a Lightweight Multi-purpose Shelter (LMS). The Operations Central will be mounted on a M1097 “Heavy” HMMWV which will tow the Antenna-Transceiver Group (ATG) on a modified M116AE1 trailer. Major subsystems of the Operations Central include an Operator Control Station(OCS), a Control/Display (BARCO MPRD 9643) Terminal (CDT), radar processor, Paper Map Display (PMD) and shelter. The OCS will serve as the man-machine interface and the CDT will allow the operator command and control system operation from a remote site up to 100 meters from the shelter.

Northrop Grumman chose the BARCO MPRD 9643 for the Firefinder Upgrade because of its form, fit and function, lighter weight and because it meets the restricted size requirements in the shelter. The enhanced man-machine interface and electronics for the LMS upgrade will provide 50 percent more interior space.

The MPRD 9643 will display all screens, situations, and radar data associated with the Antenna Transceiver Group. BARCO’s 17 inch color rugged display is fully modular and is designed for one level on-line maintenance. The mean time to repair (MTTR) is better than 30 minutes.
