BARCO Signs First Significant Contract with NIIAO for Various Russian Civil Aircraft Platforms
FARNBOROUGH, UK, 24 July, 2000 -- BARCO Display Systems has been awarded a significant contract by NIIAO (Zhukovsky, Moscow), the Russian Institute of Aircraft Equipment, for the delivery of its CDMS (Control Display and Management System) to be integrated into the cockpits of several civil aircraft, including Tupolev, Ilyushin and Beriev.
BARCO has received a first order of 35 CDMS units with Power PC card, which will be used as the flight management system computer on all of the following Russian civil platforms: TU-204, TU-214, BE-200, TU-324 and IL-114. The beginning of the first deliveries is scheduled for the end of 2000. NIIAO made an initial order commitment for 100 CDMS units before 31 December 2003.A unique feature in the BARCO Avionics displays concept, is that the user is free to design and use its own software on the BARCO platforms. The final product - Flight Management System - will be integrated and civil certified by NIIAO, in accordance with AR IAC (Aviation Register of Interstate Aviation Committee) regulations.
BARCO and NIIAO will set up an after sales organization to provide optimum customer support for all their customers. Both companies are also initiating discussions on avionics production technology transfer.
BARCO's CDMS is a compact light-weight Control Display and Management System with a sunlight-readable Active Matrix Liquid Crystal Display, providing high brightness, excellent contrast and reduced volume with low power consumption. The CDMS is designed with passive and forced air cooling, giving it high reliability and maintaining low life cycle costs, even in harsh operating environments.
