BARCO’s Rugged Displays Chosen for Brazilian Navy Modernization
CHERTSEY, UK, September 14, 1999 -- BARCO Display Systems has been selected by Concorcio MODFRAG (MODFRAG Consortium), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to supply close to one hundred high-resolution rugged displays for the console modernization for the Niteroi Class of Brazilian Frigates.
CONSUB, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the new prime contractor for the MODFRAG consortium, will integrate the BARCO RGD 651 21” rugged color display, equipped with a high-density contrast filter, into the command and control consoles for the Niteroi Class Frigates. The RGD 651 is a value-engineered display that provides a very cost-effective solution without sacrificing electro-optical performance.
The MODFRAG Consortium selected the BARCO RGD 651 display because it is a fully modular high-performance rugged display with a simplified electronic design for low power usage resulting in a high mean time between failures (MTBF). Most importantly, the RGD 651 met the stringent specifications required for critical shipboard applications. In addition, BARCO will provide local support and maintenance.
The MODFRAG Consortium had previously selected and has received delivery of BARCO Metheus high-performance graphics subsystems for the Niteroi Frigate program, which further confirms BARCO’s strong market position in Latin America for providing complete rugged display system solutions.
The MODFRAG Consortium will begin receiving delivery of BARCO’s RGD displays in the 3rd quarter of 1999.
