Barco contracts with FAA William J. Hughes Technical Center to provide engineering services
KORTRIJK, BELGIUM, 19 April 2005 – Barco has been awarded a framework contract by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to provide the William J. Hughes Technical Center with comprehensive engineering services for the next five years. Barco will use its expertise to support the FAA in various R&D initiatives that will work with ATC applications based on Barco's ODS TOOLBOX software. One of these applications is the Distributed Environment for Simulation, Rapid Engineering and Experimentation (DESIREE) simulator.
The FAA William J. Hughes Technical Center is the US’s primary aviation R&D, test and evaluation facility. The Technical Center serves as the national scientific test base for the FAA. Technical Center programs include testing and evaluation in air traffic control, communications, navigation, airport and aircraft safety, and security. Other programs include long-range development of innovative aviation systems and concepts, development of new air traffic control equipment and software, and modification of existing systems and procedures. The Technical Center has been using Barco's ODS TOOLBOX ATC display software for many years for various research and development purposes, including advanced air traffic management concept exploration, procedure validation, airspace redesign and testing. The ODS TOOLBOX has become the display software standard for several of the labs at the Technical Center.
Barco’s ODS TOOLBOX is the most widely used application toolbox for operational air traffic control display systems. ODS TOOLBOX provides the tools to visualize application data, process operator interactions, and exchange information with external systems. As a true application toolbox with extensible modularity, it can be used for rapid prototyping of new HMIs, for the implementation phase and for maintenance, with complete re-use of the code.
The period of performance of this contract has recently started and will run until 2010.
