Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore chooses Barco's Arrival Management application software
KORTRIJK, BELGIUM, 7 March 2006 - Visualization specialist Barco, in cooperation with NCS Group, Singapore, has recently been selected by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) to optimize the arrival management at Changi Airport. The contract encompasses the integration of Barco's OSYRIS Arrival Manager software with the Singapore air traffic control system. OSYRIS will facilitate smooth management of arrival air traffic within the Singapore Flight Information Region (FIR).
Barco has joined forces with NCS to provide the CAAS with a complete one-stop Arrival Management solution. The consortium will take care of the design, supply, installation, integration, testing and commissioning of the Arrival Management system. Barco will mainly be responsible for all application software issues, whereas NCS will provide all hardware components in combination with comprehensive maintenance services.For this project, Barco's OSYRIS Arrival Manager application will be customized to meet the specific operational requirements and procedures of the Singapore airspace. The Arrival Management system will be able to handle flexible runway allocation and time-dependant runway separation constraints. Furthermore, the graphical user interface will be configurable so as to represent the several runway configurations and dependency modes. Thanks to its excellent portability and open interfaces, the OSYRIS Arrival Manager can be smoothly integrated with the current Air Traffic Control system.
Barco's OSYRIS is a perfect tool to ensure smooth and efficient traffic flow with advanced advice generation for controllers. The basic philosophy of OSYRIS is to solve predictable congestions over sequencing points already within the En Route Control Centers and thus to avoid problems in the Approach and Terminal Centers. OSYRIS automatically determines arrival sequences based on preferred arrival times. The defined separation minima and local operational procedures are taken into account as constraints. The OSYRIS Arrival Manager provides advisories in order to achieve the suggested arrival times. The actual traffic evolution is monitored continuously and proposed sequences are updated dynamically.
Barco's OSYRIS has become the Arrival Management application of choice for Air Navigation Service Providers and system integrators worldwide, including Eurocontrol, Skyguide Switzerland, NAV Canada and Lockheed Martin Transportation & Security Solutions (LMTSS), USA. OSYRIS forms the kernel of CALM, Skyguide's Computer-assisted Approach and Landing Management System, which went operational at Zurich airport Kloten in March 2001. OSYRIS was also selected by Eurocontrol for the integration in its simulator system ESCAPE, which is used for pre-operational tests and validation at major airports.
The first project phase started in December 2005. The new Arrival Manager is expected to be fully operational in March 2007.
