Barco's 2Kx2K main display selected by Air Traffic Control the Netherlands

ATC Maastricht, the Netherlands, 14 February 2007 – Visualization specialist Barco has been selected by Air Traffic Control the Netherlands (Luchtverkeersleiding Nederland, LVNL) for the supply of 2Kx2K main displays. Barco's air traffic management flat panel displays will replace the current legacy CRT displays used at the controller working positions of the Amsterdam area control center.

Barco's ISIS main display was selected by LVNL on the basis of its outstanding visual performance. As part of the selection process, a team of LVNL air traffic controllers thoroughly evaluated the ISIS displays in a side-by-side set-up and, as a result, Barco's 2Kx2K displays were rated as first choice. LVNL also valued the ISIS main display’s low life cycle and investment cost, which is far below the cost of tradional CRT-based working positions.

For LVNL, it was of key importance to have a guaranteed long-term support commitment for at least up to 2014, with a possible extension up to 2019. In response to these requirements, Barco will offer LVNL a wide range of ISIS-related support services up to 2014. Within the scope of the contract, Barco will provide LVNL with backlight and fan renewals, repair services as well as ISIS operator and maintenance training. The support period holds an optional extension up to 2019.

Barco's ISIS main displays will be integrated into the existing Air Traffic Control systems at the Amsterdam area control center. The displays will replace the Plan View Displays Mixed (PVDM), analog radar displays, used at the approach working positions, as well as the analog DDM displays used at the area control working positions, both of which have reached end of service.

The 4.2 MegaPixel, 20" x 20" ISIS displays combine performance, low life cycle cost, user comfort and an open system environment into an innovative visualization architecture. ISIS flat panel displays exceed the specifications imposed by the ATC community, resulting in crisper and more detailed images that remain stable over time. The enhanced LCD brightness and the large effective viewing angle present users with detailed information, even in difficult ambient light conditions. Today, ISIS has reached a worldwide installed base of over 5,000 operational units in 75 countries. This represents approximately 100 million operating hours in real-time safety-critical Air Traffic Control applications.

LVNL received the first ISIS displays at the end of December 2006. Deliveries will continue throughout 2007.
