Barco launches integrated arrival and departure management suite
Barco's integrated OSYRIS AMAN-DMAN suite increases air traffic efficiency and reduces air pollution
ATC Global, Amsterdam – 11 March 2008 – At ATC Global 2008, Barco, a leader in visualization solutions for professional markets, will present its integrated suite of arrival and departure management software for flexible resource utilization, reduced workload and queue management in today's crowded air traffic environment. Barco's OSYRIS AMAN-DMAN software can generate increased capacities for limited airside resources like runways and airspace. In addition, the suite offers environmental benefits as it leads to a reduction of fuel consumption and consequent air pollution. Both arrival and departure components are separately or jointly available.
Barco's integrated OSYRIS AMAN-DMAN suite
In order to adapt to increasing expectations for the efficiency of traffic flows, Barco designed the OSYRIS Decision Support Tool that meets the growing demands of air traffic controllers. The concept of this suite is to generate planning advisories for air traffic controllers in order to automate specific tasks and calculations and improve ATC operations.
"With the Barco OSYRIS AMAN-DMAN suite, both air navigation service providers and airports can increase their efficiency and reduce environmental impact at the same time", Frank Köhne, clarifies. "For instance, controllers can organize inbound and outbound traffic in a more flexible way. When there's an imbalance between inbound and outbound traffic demand, they may decide to open up the departure runway for aircraft arrivals, or the other way around".
Barco's OSYRIS AMAN-DMAN comes with modern, ergonomically designed graphical user interfaces that present relevant information to air traffic controllers depending on the situation. The underlying workflow concept can be adapted as required by end users and Human Factors experts.
The Barco arrival and departure components are also separately available:
AMAN, Barco's OSYRIS Arrival Manager
With the AMAN solution, flight profiles are improved and holding patterns are avoided. The software continuously monitors the traffic situation and, without limiting their freedom of decision, generates advisories to controllers in order to achieve the suggested arrival times. Barco's OSYRIS Arrival Manager is already the arrival management application of choice for air navigation service providers, research organizations and system integrators worldwide, including EUROCONTROL, Skyguide Switzerland, Avinor Norway, CAD Hong Kong, CAA of Singapore, NATS UK, NAV Canada, Raytheon and Lockheed Martin.
DMAN, Barco's OSYRIS Departure Manager
With the addition of the Departure Manager, Barco helps airports to further increase their capacity by offering flexible resource utilization, improved decision making and take-off queue management. Barco's OSYRIS DMAN proposes an optimized departure sequence for maximum outbound punctuality with significantly shorter queues at the runways. It reduces the workload by providing advice on when the next instruction to pilots should be given. The first installation of the OSYRIS Departure Manager, originally based on the results of the validation work of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and EUROCONTROL, will take place later in 2008.
The AMAN-DMAN suite conforms to the Airport CDM (Collaborative Decision Making) concept, developed under the auspices of EUROCONTROL, which embodies a new philosophy for managing air traffic. In general, this approach seeks to improve airport operation by enabling better decisions, optimizing the use of existing resources, improving productivity, reducing operating costs and increasing punctuality.
