Barco and Thales partner to market command, control and intelligence solutions worldwide

Eurosatory, Paris, France, 16 June 2008 – Barco and Thales announce the signature of a strategic global partnership to jointly promote Thales’ C4I (Computerized Command, Control, Communications and Intelligence) and ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) solutions, and Barco’s networked visualization solutions. The resulting capability combines Barco’s information display solutions with tailored C4ISR content, forming a commander’s decision space adapted to strategic or deployed headquarters as well as mobile command posts for defense and security customers worldwide.

Commenting on the expected benefits of the Barco-Thales cooperation, Jacques Rabain, Vice-President C4ISR, Thales’ Land & Joint systems division, observes: “The current integration of C4ISR resulting from battle space digitization offers new, powerful decision-support tools. The merging of geospatial information, imagery, shared situational awareness and multi-source intelligence calls for tailored information display to the commander: network-ready, content-aware, and on demand. Here, the NATO-standardized references of Barco and Thales, their technology lead as well as the worldwide reach of both companies deliver valuable information dominance solutions.”

As part of the agreement, Barco’s Security and Monitoring division and Thales Land & Joint systems division will cooperate in terms of marketing, technology and solution design to C4ISR users.

“The global partnership is leveraging a long-standing relationship with Thales”, said Alain Solomon, VP Worldwide Sales at Barco’s Security & Monitoring division. “It reflects our ability to deliver optimal capabilities for enhanced situational awareness, by integrating our network-centric visualization solutions into the Thales battle space digitization solutions.

Barco’s integrated and networked visualization platforms

Barco’s integrated and networked visualization platforms deliver information superiority, providing a clear advantage in real-time Command & Control operations, research and mission planning. They provide up-to-the-minute, dynamically tailored access to synthesized Common Operational Picture (COP) and scenarios – enabling Shared Situational Awareness (SSA) for the simultaneous sharing of information among many people at the same time. This facilitates rapid collaborative planning, Course Of Action (COA) development, decision-making, execution, communication and monitoring.

Thales C4ISR capabilities

The Thales European leadership in networked information dominance is reflected in its core offerings for battle space digitization. Comm@nder, an integrated computerized command, control, communications and intelligence solution meets the growing requirements for jointness and network-enabled capabilities, from Joint command to the dismounted squad leader. CIEW (Communications Intelligence and Electronic Warfare) provides tailored mission packages for strategic intelligence, Army or Naval electronic support measures and electronic attack. Thales also offers operational applications for geodata production, battle management or intelligence exploitation.
