Barco's 2Kx2K main displays operational at Irish Aviation Authority
Kortrijk, 3 November 2008 – Barco, a leader in display and visualization solutions for selected professional markets, was selected last year by the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) for the supply of 2Kx2K ISIS main displays. The Barco flat panel displays are now installed and in operational use at the IAA ATC centers in Dublin and Shannon.
The IAA provides air traffic management services in Irish-controlled airspace from two modern centers located in Dublin and Shannon. Since 2004 it has invested more than 115 million euro in modernizing its air traffic control systems. IAA had previously purchased Orion CRT displays from Barco and more recently Barco TCD displays for use in its ATC towers. Now the Irish Aviation Authority has implemented Barco 2K x 2K LCD displays to replace the Sony CRT displays that were used at the controller working positions.The IAA stated that its former CRT displays were obsolescent and becoming more expensive to maintain. Moving to LCD technology also provided significant improvements in image quality. After a competitive tender process, the IAA concluded that Barco offered the best combination of the IAA’s tendering requirements. The expertise, experience and capacity of Barco scored well and it was of key importance that Barco could meet the IAA’s delivery requirements. The IAA was satisfied with installation and replacement of the units which went very quickly and smoothly, as in less than six months after placing the order with Barco, the displays were in operational use.
The 4 MegaPixel LCD displays and graphics controllers of the ISIS family combine high performance, low life cycle cost, user comfort and an open system environment into an innovative visualization architecture. The ISIS main display features the latest LCD technology offering an ergonomic, lightweight solution for ATC controller workstation positions. The enhanced LCD brightness and the large effective viewing angle present users with detailed information, even in difficult ambient light conditions.
Today, Barco has more than 7,500 ISIS displays operational in 75 countries worldwide.
