BARCO Avionics Displays Selected by PILATUS for New PC-21 High Performance Turboprop Trainer
KORTRIJK, BELGIUM - BarcoView has been selected by Pilatus Aircraft, Stans, Switzerland, to supply a first series of Avionics Cockpit Head Down Displays (CHDD-6.8/1) and intelligent Multi-Function Displays (MFD-6.8/1) to be integrated into the new Pilatus PC-21 aircraft.
Barco's CHDD-6.8/1 and MFD-6.8/1 displays will be integrated in the Pilatus PC-21, a new High Performance Turboprop Trainer aircraft designed by Pilatus for basic, advanced and fighter lead-in training roles. Each PC-21 will be equipped with four CHDD-6.8/1 and two MFD-6.8/1 units.Pilatus opted for Barco's advanced displays for their high-performance, digital video-implementation, cost-competitiveness and also because they are based on the principles of open and modular architecture.Barco's CHDD-6.8/1 is a digital video-only Cockpit Head Down Display that can be used as Primary Flight Display (in combination with an external symbol generator). The avionics display features a sunlight-readable 6" x 8" Active Matrix Liquid Crystal Display (AMLCD) and conforms to NVIS B Standards. This technology provides high brightness, excellent contrast and reduced volume with low power consumption. Several bezel options are available allowing the CHDD-6.8/1 to fit into various avionics architectures for both new and retrofit aircraft.Barco's MFD-6.8/1 is a Multi-Function primary flight instrumentation display with a sunlight-readable 6" x 8" Display which also uses state-of-the-art AMLCD which ensures a superior optical performance in terms of luminance, contrast and reflectivity. Video presentation and graphics, from different sources, can be displayed in single mode as well as in overlay mode. The MFD family uses the same architecture as the CHDD product range, which results in full interchangeability of all option boards.A long-term series contract is already in place.
