Malco Theatres chooses Barco for digital conversion of Arkansas cinema multiplex

Digital cinema pioneer Barco announced today that Malco Theatres chose Barco and Dolby Laboratories, exclusively for one of its Arkansas complexes.

Malco Theatres, one of the leading independent exhibitors in the US, is making digital cinema a reality by deploying Barco DP100 2K projectors and Dolby Digital Cinema systems in theatres. As its first step, Malco Theatres plans to install 12 screens with Barco 's digital cinema 2k projectors in its Malco Pinnacle Hills 12 cinema in Rogers, Arkansas in the Pinnacle Center. This is the first complex to have all Barco and Dolby Digital Cinema screens.

“These are exciting times for everyone involved in this deployment. We are pleased to be working with Barco and Dolby. Each and every new opportunity builds the relationships more and more,” said Michael Thompson, Vice President Operations & Technology, Malco Theatres.

“Digital cinema is revolutionizing the cinema-going experience, and exhibitors like Malco are already seeing the benefits of having a digital cinema system up and running in its theaters,” said Tim Partridge, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Professional Division, Dolby Laboratories. “We are pleased to work with Barco for this deployment, as the company shares the same commitment as we do to deliver high-quality and reliable products to exhibitors worldwide.”

Over the past six months, Malco has presented more than ten movies digitally including presentations of The Ant Bully, Monster House, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.

“We are proud to be selected by Malco to provide our digital projectors for the first digital conversion of a complete multiplex in the United States. Selection of our projectors is also proof of confidence in the reliability of DLP Cinema® technology.. We are experiencing the digital revolution, where every cinema in the near future will be showing films digitally,” stated Joe DeMeo, Sales Director for Barco's digital cinema activities.

On a global basis, Barco D-CINE products have become the preferred choice for large theatre chains and independents — creating new revenue streams and new levels of efficiency. In alliance with industry leaders such as Technicolor, Kodak, Dolby, Kinepolis, Malco, Utopolis, Dadi Guandong and Megabox, Barco continues to deliver products that meet the needs of the market. With each installation, Barco DP90 and DP100 projectors ensure optimum performance, reliability, and a remarkable in-theatre experience.
