Barco raises the bar for cost-effective diagnostic viewing with new Nio® display system

Next generation Nio® improves on performance and affordability

KORTRIJK, BELGIUM, 14 October 2004 – Barco is proud to announce the release of the next generation of its diagnostic grayscale display system Nio®. Following on its commitment to maintain the highest standards in medical imaging, Barco’s Nio® has been significantly enhanced with a new, ultra-fast display controller, more extended quality assurance functionality and an attractive new design. Improving on performance and affordability, Barco’s innovative line of Nio® display systems continues to address the significant needs of healthcare professionals for a high-quality, yet cost-effective solution for diagnostic viewing.

The successful Nio® medical display system, available in 2MP, 3MP and 5MP resolutions and single- and dual-head configurations, was originally introduced in June 2003. Since then, medical professionals have applauded Nio® as an affordable, reliable and high-quality solution for diagnostic viewing. Its high-brightness, combined with image crispness and excellent viewing angle makes Nio® a flexible solution for a multitude of medical imaging applications, including PACS, CT, MRI and angiography.

Today, Barco’s Nio® product line has been substantially improved with even more advanced capabilities. A significant enhancement to Barco’s Nio® display systems is the new BarcoMed® Nio® display controller, featuring Barco’s proprietary AURA technology. BarcoMed® Nio® produces 256 simultaneous grays out of a palette of 1024. With 64-bit PCI performance and image download speeds up to 200 MB per second, BarcoMed® Nio® is the fastest display controller in its league.

Next to Barco’s high-speed display controller, the new NIO® display system features an update of Barco’s user-friendly NioWatch® software. With NioWatch®, softcopy QA administrators can easily set the display in accordance to DICOM part 14. Last but not least, Nio® displays can now be equipped with a protective front cover, which protects the LCD panel against damage from intensive use in clinical rooms.

NIO® display systems feature Barco’s proven Backlight Output Stabilization (BLOS®) technology. BLOS® guarantees fast power-up and continuously stabilizes the luminance output of the LCD’s backlight. This significantly improves the overall optical efficiency of all Nio® display systems and provides long-term image confidence.
