Barco delivers premium medical display technology to the Swiss TriPACS program

KORTRIJK, BELGIUM, 14 July 2005 – Barco’s premium diagnostic display systems have been selected by Agfa, Dübendorf, Switzerland, as the imaging solutions of choice for the Swiss TriPACS project. The project aims at bringing the latest Picture Archiving and Communication technology to the radiology departments of three hospitals in Zürich and Winterthur. The TriPACS system will allow these hospitals to digitally view, exchange and store their medical images with great ease, thereby optimizing their workflow and enabling better patient care.

Within the framework of this program, 40 Coronis premium display systems will be integrated into the hospitals’ Agfa IMPAX PACS systems in multiple phases. “Barco’s innovative Coronis display system was an obvious choice for Agfa because of its intelligent I-Guard sensor technology, its powerful display controller and its user-friendly softcopy QA functionality, all of which contribute to the system’s outstanding and continuous image quality”, explains Dieter Kocher, Manager HealthCare Agfa Switzerland.

“Moreover”, he adds, “Barco could ensure maximum uptime of the Coronis systems thanks to its rigorous asset management strategy. And with the MediCal Administrator software, users have a powerful tool to access the information in the entire display base and carry out QA checks from any remote location.”

Coronis is renowned for its high image¬ quality standards and worry-free QA concept, based on the revolutionary I-Guard technology. Thanks to the ever-present I-Guard sensor in combination with Barco’s softcopy QA software, physicians can be assured of DICOM quality over the entire life cycle of the display, without the need for human intervention.

Barco’s MediCal Administrator software, also selected for this project, allows for centralized, hospital-wide image quality management. With this advanced QA solution, technicians or system administrators will automatically be notified via e-mail, cell phone or SNMP if ever one of the hospital’s display systems performs below standards. A user-friendly web interface provides access to the consistency data of all the installed displays, enabling optimal scheduling of maintenance operations and reduced workloads.
