Barco launches industry-first medical diagnostic luminance color display system

RSNA, CHICAGO, IL, USA, 27 November 2005 - At this year's RSNA, Barco will launch an industry-first, high-bright medical color display system with diagnostic luminance. As part of Barco's new Coronis display system family, the Coronis Color 3MP Diagnostic Luminance presents color as well as grayscale images with unprecedented brightness, contrast and DICOM precision over the entire lifetime of the display. With this versatile premium high-bright color display system, Barco offers a solution for the increasing need for multi-modality imaging and color-enriched applications.

Until today, color displays have not been bright enough for diagnostic grayscale imaging. Barco's new Coronis Color 3MP Diagnostic Luminance display system offers all benefits of color without compromising on grayscale quality. With a calibrated brightness of 500 cd/m2, Barco's Coronis Color 3MP Diagnostic Luminance is the perfect answer to the latest trends in medical diagnostic imaging, such as the rise of color-augmented modalities, 3D imaging, Computer Aided Diagnosis (CAD) and the merge of various types of patient data into one Electronic Medical Record (EMR).

Coronis Color 3MP Diagnostic Luminance is bundled with a high-performance, ATI-powered display controller. Based on PCI Express architecture, Barco's display controller guarantees ultra-fast and smooth image loading, roaming and manipulation in 2D and 3D.

As the flagship of Barco's new Coronis display system family, Coronis Color 3MP Diagnostic Luminance features the latest display technology innovations, such as Barco's proprietary Uniform Luminance Technology. This technology effectively corrects luminance non-uniformities that are typical of today's Liquid Crystal Displays. With Barco's Uniform Luminance Technology, radiologists can be sure that their images are DICOM-compliant everywhere on the screen.

In addition, Coronis Color 3MP Diagnostic Luminance features Barco's unique I-Guard sensor technology, which continually guards and adjusts the luminance output of the diagnostic viewing area. Combined with Barco's MediCal QAWeb softcopy QA software, the patented I-Guard brings fast and easy calibrations, automatic Quality Assurance testing and remote diagnoses of the display's diagnostic area. The latest version of I-Guard has been further perfected for color imaging and improved with increased read-out speed and enhanced sensitivity down to the lowest luminance levels.

Another Barco innovation added to the Coronis Color 3MP Diagnostic Luminance display system is the intelligent Ambient Light Compensation (ALC) system. ALC assures that the Coronis Color 3MP Diagnostic Luminance system remains DICOM-compliant under all lighting conditions by adapting its Look-Up Tables in function of the ambient light conditions. If the level of ambient light no longer corresponds to the predefined range, users will automatically be notified.
