Barco Provides Video and Scoring Solutions for Stadiums at Four Major American Universities

Colorado State, Rutgers, George Washington and Mississippi State add new LED display solutions, bolstering game-day experience for fans and players .

Kuurne, Belgium – March 22, 2005 – Barco, a leading provider of display solutions for professional and collegiate sports markets, today announced installations at the sports facilities of four American universities: Colorado State, Rutgers, George Washington and Mississippi State. The total value of the four projects amounts to more than USD 3 million.

Colorado State University (CSU) recently implemented a new 17- x 23-foot LED screen for Hughes Stadium, its football facility. The new video display, which is constructed of 64 custom-built SLite 14-millimeter (mm) LED tiles, enables the crowd to see the game from all angles.

Included in the turnkey solution are delay-of-game clocks, locker room clocks, an auxiliary scoreboard and several advertising panels. Now, over 40,000 screaming CSU football fans will watch instant replays and highlights in 4.4 trillion vivid colors.

Barco recently supplied an LED scoreboard for the soccer/lacrosse stadium at Yurcak Field for Rutgers University. Rutgers, the birthplace of college football, also energized its game-day experiences by selecting the professionals at Barco to install a 22- x 30-foot LED video display as part of its football scoring system for Rutgers Stadium. The total solution features a virtual scoreboard that allows the school to customize scoring for any sport. The full-color LED display includes live video options, animations, graphics and statistics that can be used to keep fans involved with the game.

Located on the opposite end of the football field is a second display board, which, with the support of an amber LED scoring matrix, involves fans in the game by displaying game information and player statistics. With all of the new additions, 41,500 fans can’t help but be caught up in the excitement of Rutgers football.

“Barco has lived up to the expectations we had for this system,” said Robert Mulcahy, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at Rutgers University. “After thoroughly researching and viewing different video solutions in the market, we chose Barco based on its ability to provide the highest quality products and turnkey installation in a quick timeframe.”

George Washington University implemented Barco’s cutting-edge technology into the Charles E. Smith sports complex. The new LED installation features four 6- x 8-foot ILite 10mm video screens capable of displaying live video, instant replays, high-resolution animations and graphics. Also included in the package are two 22mm LED fascia displays that run along the lower concourse. Barco’s solution has enabled George Washington University to lay claim to owing the highest resolution LED video screen in the entire Atlantic 10 Conference.

Mississippi State University’s (MSU) Humphrey Coliseum, the largest on-campus arena in the state of Mississippi, recently underwent a scoring transformation. A generous contribution provided by the Henry Mize Foundation, which also allowed MSU to receive a customized baseball scoreboard last spring, paved the way for the remarkable coliseum to receive a new four-sided, center-hung LED video display. The LED video screens are created with Barco’s advanced Ilite 12 mm indoor product. The center-hung also includes four custom fixed-digit LED scoreboards with statistics and electronic team names as well as backlit ad panels. Weighing in at 14,000 pounds, the complete configuration measures 22.10’ across x 18.6’ high.

“The Barco state-of-the art LED technology is sure to increase fan excitement and participation while increasing the opportunity for sponsor revenue. Barco is excited to be a part of these four successful athletic programs,” stated Dave Janke, General Manager, Barco Media.
