Barco teams with AV Promotions to illuminate Hong Kong’s Asian Film Awards with dazzling LED backdrop
Beijing, CHINA, 25 March 2009 — Barco, a world leader in visualization and display solutions, partnered with AV Promotions to bring added luster to the much-celebrated Asian Film Awards held Monday 23 March in Hong Kong. An array of Barco LED screens provided a stellar backdrop to what is often considered the Asian Oscars. Barco's ILite 6BK LED tiles, along with a series of FLM R20+ projectors, all driven by the highly versatile Encore System, created an atmosphere of exciting movement to the event.

The Asian Film Awards (AFA) 2009 ceremony took place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center on 23 March. Film stars on the red carpet included Tony Leung Chiu Wai (In the Mood for Love, Lust Caution, Infernal Affairs), Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Memoirs of a Geisha), Joan Chen (Lust Caution, The Home Song Stories) and Priyanka Chopra.
AFA came up with a magical kaleidoscopic motif for Barco's giant, high-resolution LED screens to flank the stage at the awards presentation ceremony, symbolizing the grandeur, color and diversity of Asian cinema. The multi-hued brilliance of the ILite LED screens served to contrast a starkly minimalist set design, and brought to life a tapered grand staircase and a magnificent 8 meter (25 ft) tall arch that cut a radiant path across the stage, creating a stylized “A” to symbolize of the Asian Film Awards. In total no less than 330 black LED tiles were used in the dazzling stage backdrop design.
To realize high-resolution projection effects, two FLM R20+ projectors were utilized. These projectors deliver exceptional brightness and near silent operation, making them perfect for the AFA event. To realize multiple image affects throughout the evening, image processing was driven by Barco's advanced Encore video processing and presentation system. The AFA gala was broadcast live in High Definition, giving an added brilliance to an already spectacular event. It was viewed by some 300 million households around the globe and was streamed live over the internet.
The LED tiles and projectors were all provided by AV Promotions Limited Corporation, a major rental partner for Barco. As is standard, AVP also provided the full range of professional technical support throughout the event to ensure its success.
