Barco digital projectors star at International Planetarium (IPS) Conference
Spitz, Inc. Uses BarcoReality 909 projectors for Display at IPS Conference
Xenia, Ohio – October 9, 2002 – Barco, an experienced manufacturer of projection systems and a pioneer in multi-channel, multi-screen immersive projection solutions, is proud to announce the use of its BarcoReality 909 high resolution projectors for the launch of the Spitz ElectricSky® product line at the International Planetarium Society (IPS) conference, held at Exploration Place in Wichita, Kansas. The biennial conference of IPS, the largest organization of professional planetarians in the world, took place July 28 until August 1.
The BarcoReality 909 projectors combined 1280 by 1024 format graphics to project over 6 million pixels onto the 60 foot diameter CyberDome Theater at Exploration Place. The synchronized content was delivered by QuVIS servers controlled by Spitz's ATM-4 Theater Automation System.
Spitz selected the BarcoReality’s for their unsurpassed image quality. They are equipped with several high-end Application Specific Optimizations to perform a perfectly blended dome-projection. The Convergence on Green (COG) allows precise and accurate alignment of the multi-channel system and the Advanced Contrast Modulation results in superior luminance and color uniformity – not just for each projector but over the entire display.
“To fully immerse the audience”, commented Ed Lantz, product development manager for Spitz, “we had to use projectors that deliver large screen images with ultimate visual fidelity and true black levels. This capability is particularly important when displaying night-sky and deep-space imagery. BarcoReality 909 projectors provide the highest image quality of any projection system on the market that we know of.”
Spitz previously selected Barco to play content in a 360 degree domed cinema within the Volkswagen Pavilion at Volkswagen's Autostadt, in Wolfsberg, Germany. Here 4 Barco ELM G10 DLP projectors were used, each delivering a light output of over 10.000 ANSI lumens to form one single star bright image.
