Estádio do Dragão
Case study
Estádio do Dragão, FC Porto’s new stadium, is built in the city near the old Antas Stadium. The stadium, which was inaugurated in November 2003, has a seating capacity of over 50,000 spectators.
On each end of the stadium, Barco installed a 48m² SLite outdoor LED display. On match days, these displays are used to entertain the fans in the stadium and increase their overall experience before, during and after the game. As both displays are mounted on a rotating pole, they can be turned outward. On non-match days, facing the plaza around the stadium and the Via de Cintura Interna ring road, the screens are used for advertising. To make sure the right information shows up on the different displays at the right time, Porto has installed Barco’s sport control software. Replays, animations, video clips as well as advertising messaging can be shown and changed at the touch of a button.
The Dragão stadium in Porto will host the Euro 2004 opening ceremony as well as the opening game between Portugal and Greece on June 12th. The stadium will also be used for the quarter final and the semi final on June 27th and July 1st respectively.
