[KB1477] Does the ClickShare extended desktop work on Mac OS X? (FAQ)

Short Description

The extended desktop functionality is not available on macOS when using the ClickShare Button. Creating a virtual extended desktop (i.e. an extended desktop without a second physical monitor connected to the computer) is not supported in this Operating System. In case of a CSC-1, the extended desktop function can be used with the integrated AirPlay support on firmware version 1.07 or higher.

Answer

Since it is not supported natively, this functionality would require the installation of a driver. The ClickShare client application completely relies on drivers already existing in the operating system, so the user does not need to install anything before using it. Therefore, installing a driver on macOS conflicts with our "ease of use" philosophy. In case of a CSC-1, the extended desktop function can be used with the integrated AirPlay support from 1.07 firmware softversion and higher by selecting “use as a sseperate display” from the Airplay menu on your macOS system.
