Monitoring Ormen Lange's amazing energy journey

Case study

Ormen Lange was once the giant serpent described in Norwegian mythology and the most famous of all Viking long ships. Today, it is mainly known as the largest natural gas field on the Norwegian continental shelf, consisting of a series of sea-bed installations, an onshore processing plant and a 1,200 km long pipeline to the UK.

The Ormen Lange gas field became operational in October 2007, after ten years of challenging construction works. Operators at the onshore plant monitor and control the gas flows, 24 hours a day. The Barco video wall in their control room provides a perfect overview of the entire process. In addition, the onshore plant includes Barco systems in the simulator and collaboration rooms.
