Belgian national broadcaster RTBF chooses Barco's networked broadcast monitoring system
Kuurne, Belgium, 14 April 2009 – Visualization specialist Barco has been selected for the new production control rooms of Belgian national broadcaster RTBF. In cooperation with integrator Erudict Media Solutions, Barco will install its Networked Broadcast Monitoring System (NBMS), which will allow RTBF to visualize and monitor its increasing amount of video sources and metadata facility-wide.
RTBF (Télévision Belge de la Communauté française) addresses Belgium's French-speaking community, which includes some four million people in Brussels and in the southern part of Belgium. RTBF's six radio channels and five television channels offer several information, educational and entertainment programs.Together with multimedia specialist Erudict Media Solutions, Barco will install an NBMS system, which will enable to monitor 160 SDI sources. The resulting images will be displayed on some thirty 47-inch wide-screen LCD displays, located in 13 different rooms throughout the RTBF facility, including playout control rooms, ingest and validation rooms, supervision and planning rooms. NBMS will also be seamlessly integrated with other third-party subsystems at the RTBF studios, such as routers, automation and monitoring systems.

Barco also provided us with the opportunity to test and work with the system during one week. Our RTBF operators were very excited about the system, which convinced us that Barco's Networked Broadcast Monitoring System was the way forward.”

NBMS is specifically designed to support high-quality, low-latency distribution of video sources and metadata over an IP network to multiple screens, even in separate control rooms, hereby offering ultimate flexibility for broadcast and distribution monitoring. As such, Barco's Networked Broadcast Monitoring System goes beyond the functionality of a traditional multiviewer, towards enterprise-wide monitoring. Barco's NBMS solution consists of high-quality rear-projection modules or LCD panels, a networked hardware platform consisting of source capturing units, the interconnecting IP network and display generating units, and a software package allowing complete system control.
