Tokyo Women's Medical University Medical Center East selects Barco as sole supplier of medical displays
Kortrijk, Belgium, 17 June 2009 – Medical display leader Barco has won a substantial order for the supply of medical displays for a new PACS system to be installed at Tokyo Women's Medical University Medical Center East in Japan. Under the agreement, Barco's local distributor, Toyo Corporation, will deliver a large number of diagnostic and clinical display systems, including Barco's innovative 6 MegaPixel diagnostic color display system. All displays will be integrated into the PACS solution provided by Infinitt Japan Co., Ltd.
Tokyo Women's Medical University (TWMU) Medical Center East was looking for a display visualization solution that could support the needs of radiology but also of other disciplines, including dental imaging, endoscopy, ultrasonography and cardiology. In addition, the hospital wanted to reap the full benefits of today's advanced 3D imaging applications, including MIP and MPR. Thanks to its extensive display portfolio, Barco was able to offer a dedicated display solution for each of these diverse requirements.
TWMU Medical Center East opted for Barco's proven Coronis grayscale (5 MegaPixel) and Nio Color
(3 MegaPixel) display systems because of their impeccable reputation for confidence and precision in the radiology community. Furthermore, the hospital will deploy Coronis Fusion 6MP DL multi-modality displays, featuring the world's first 30-inch diagnostic color LCD that can be used either as two seamless 3 MegaPixel heads or as a single wide-screen 6 MegaPixel display. The system presents radiologists with an exceptional level of diagnostic confidence, thanks to its unmatched uniformity, clarity and grayscale accuracy.

Dr. Eiko Ueno, the Professor and Chairperson of the Radiology Department at the TWMU Medical Center East comments: “When I saw Barco's Coronis Fusion 6MP DL for the first time at AOCR last year, I was impressed by its exceptional image quality. Its capability to display both color and grayscale studies with ultimate detail, makes it the perfect fit for our very diverse visualization requirements.”
Apart from these diagnostic displays, TWMU Medical Center East also ordered 60 units of the recently-launched Barco MDRC clinical review displays. These 1.3 and 2 MegaPixel color monitors will be used as quality-controlled review monitors in the various hospital departments. Thanks to their professional-quality LCD-panel and preset DICOM-settings, the dedicated monitors will visualize images and patient data with more accurate grayscales, better contrast and a wider viewing angle than conventional computer monitors.
To ensure the long-term consistency of its PACS stations, the hospital will also deploy Barco's MediCal QAWeb solution for Quality Assurance, which comes standard with every display. This online system includes smart features for intervention-free calibration, QA and display asset management throughout the entire hospital enterprise.
