Barco Selected by Airbus for A380 Test Flight Program
KORTRIJK, BELGIUM, May 13, 2003 - Barco has been awarded a significant contract by Airbus for the delivery of 18” and 20.1” rugged flat displays to be used in the A380 test flight program. Barco’s high-performance rugged displays will be integrated into testing consoles to visualize all vital test data aboard the A380, the largest commercial airliner in the world.
Airbus opted for Barco’s visualization solutions because of their optimum performance and reliability in highly demanding airborne applications. The rugged displays will be integrated into the aircraft’s fuselage to visualize vital system data, primary flight parameters, cockpit activity and system settings for onboard test engineers.
Airbus selected Barco’s MRFD246, an 18” Modular Rugged Flat Display and RFD251, a 20.1” Rugged Flat Display. These rugged displays feature Barco’s unique bonding technique for superior optical performance in difficult environmental conditions like those found on board airplanes. Furthermore, the displays’ modular concept ensures a low-risk COTS management solution with special attention for obsolescence issues.
Airbus will begin receiving deliveries in the second quarter of this year with final shipments to be delivered in the second quarter of 2004.
