VIRTUS is an advanced, dual-band driver’s sight system, jointly developed by Barco, Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, and Zeiss Optronik. VIRTUS (Visual and Infra-Red Technology for Unlimited Sight) unites the expertise of all three companies and offers virtually unlimited sight under conditions of low visibility, such as dark nights, hard rain or fog.
VIRTUS combines a sophisticated, dual-band sensor head with a state-of-the art driver’s display into a powerful vision enhancement system capable of visualizing the invisible.
The heart of the VIRTUS system consists of a specific algorithm, capable of merging infrared camera input and I²CCD (Image Intensified Charge Coupled Device) input into a single, combined image. Due to color-coding, the output image offers enhanced effectiveness at low-visibility conditions.
