New Barco proprietary solutions deliver enhanced visualization for training at night and in brownout situations
London – At ITEC 2004 Barco’s latest state-of-the-art optimizations for optimal contrast in night scenes, will be demonstrated in a cylindrical simulator.
Be it for flight, ship bridge, gunnery, or driving simulators, night scenes are an important part of any training; yet, they are one of the most demanding challenges for simulation visualization.
As dark night scenes or scenes with sandstorms typically deliver video signals with reduced dynamic range and almost no contrast, Barco’s Extended Contrast Ratio (ECR™) can be applied to rescale the dynamic range to the brightness level required, thereby improving the contrast ratio and bit depth of the image.
All matrix-based projectors (DLP™, LCD) leak a little light when in the black state, but leakage doubles when superposing two images, and electrical blending performs poorly in blending very dark, near-black images. With Barco’s proprietary Optical Soft Edge Matching (OSEM™), blending filters in the optical path restrict the black level in the overlap zone to that of the separate images. This results in a seamless image with invisible blends, also in night sceneries, with complete control of the full dynamic range.
New proprietary optimizations maintain uniform light output and color reproduction over time for the complete visualization system, even after lamp replacement. The Linked Constant Light Output (Linked CLO™) - a worldwide first for DLP and LCD projectors - enables the user to set a certain brightness level that is constantly monitored and maintained. Linked Dynacolor™ allows the user to digitally set the primary and secondary color coordinates in order to obtain perfect color matching across a system. The system also auto-senses the addition of a new projector and updates the common color triangle as required.
At ITEC 2004 Barco’s latest state-of-the-art optimizations for the best possible contrast in night scenes, will be demonstrated in a cylindrical simulator set-up offering a HFOV of 190 degrees, equipped with four SIM4 simulation-dedicated single-chip DLP™ projectors with extended contrast ratio, optical soft edge matching, linked constant light output, and linked DynaColor™.
