Barco brings fresh light and vision to Dutch National Aerospace Laboratory NLR
Amsterdam – Barco, a leading global provider of visual display systems for simulation and training, continued its superb track record with a projection solution for the Dutch National Aerospace Laboratory (NLR). Barco will upgrade NLR’s F-16 pilot training simulator, supplying two SIM6 Ultra II projectors to replace the end-of-life GE Talaria projectors.
“One thing that makes Barco technology remarkable is its dynamic versatility,” says Michel Vandeplas, President of Barco Presentation & Simulation. “The SIM6 Ultra II projector is an ideal replacement for the Talaria projectors because they fit perfectly with the complex existing configuration.”NLR, a nonprofit technological institution, conducts applied research for the aviation and space exploration industries. NLR focuses not only on the scientific aspect of technology, but also on its practical applications for industry and government. As part of its research, NLR features the Generic Fighter Operations Research Cockpit Environment (GFORCE), a sophisticated military simulator. Configured for research and development primarily for the F-16, the GFORCE makes use of two projectors: the first to project background imagery, the second to project a high resolution central image. Tracking devices in the pilot’s helmet keep the pictures moving inside the dome with stunning realism, providing an almost 360 degrees horizontal and 120 degrees vertical visual scene for the pilot.
When it came time to replace the outdated Talaria light valves projectors, NLR chose Barco’s dedicated SIM6 Ultra II LCD-based projector. With native UXGA resolution (1600 x 1200) and a compact, rugged design, the SIM6 Ultra II features multi-channel optimization with Color Gamut Matching and Dynacolor for perfect brightness and clarity. This SIM 6 Ultra II also includes proprietary options such as Warp 6 nonlinear image mapping and True Motion Reproduction to reduce distortion and smearing, making it the ideal choice for cutting-edge projection.
Barco’s projection upgrade for NLR is the latest in a string of successes; Barco has performed similar upgrades for clients in Sweden and Japan. As users consider replacement alternatives for the Talaria light valves, they can feel confident that Barco has what it takes to transform their systems into true visual solutions.
“Many companies are searching to replace their Talaria projectors,” says Mr. Vandeplas. “Barco has the solution. We can provide a visual “face lift” to improve functionality and quality, maximizing effectiveness and enhancing research and training.”
