BARCO demonstrates proprietary advanced Non-Linear Image Mapping WARP 6™ at I/ITSEC 2001

Proprietary bi-cubic interpolation algorithms for unprecedented image quality

Barco’s latest technology WARP 6™ offers the very best picture quality that can be achieved with any Non-Linear Image Mapping (NLIM) processor, both in SXGA and in UXGA resolutions. Barco has specifically optimized the WARP 6™ to preserve fine detail in the image and reduce aliasing to an absolute minimum.

“Thanks to the close integration into the pixel map processor, intermediate signal conversions can be reduced to a bare minimum and processing delays are excluded,” says Johan Blondelle, Program Manager at Barco Simulation Products. “Using the intuitive user interface, bows can be set up and modified in a flash, giving the user real-time access to the distortion characteristics. To fine-tune the image, the user has the possibility to drag the individual grid points to their desired locations”.


Thanks to the WARP 6™, fixed-matrix projectors such as the BarcoReality SIM 6, can now be used in a wide variety of curved-screen applications, ranging from straightforward cylindrical displays to the wildest shapes that can be imagined. By predistorting the image inside the projector, a correct geometry can be achieved on curved screens, without requiring additional computational power on the IG’s side.

Next to theBarcoReality SIM 6, WARP 6™ can also be integrated in the new addition to the SIM 6 family, the BarcoReality SIM 6 UXGA and in Barco’s Stereo DLP™ projector the Galaxy.

Barco’s leading-edge WARP 6™ completes Barco’s range of standard integrated application specific optimizations, such as True Motion Reproduction (TMR), Transport Delay Reduction, and Black and White Uniformity Correction, all of which are integrated in the built-in pixel map processor of Barco’s Light Valve projectors.
