The Centre d'Essais en Vol Selects Barco to Upgrade French Tiger and Rafale Simulators
Istres, France – The Centre d’Essais en Vol (CEV) in Istres, France, has selected Barco to refurbish its existing Barco aircraft simulation domes. The Barco system solution will provide the high-resolution images for the full-mission simulators of the French aircraft training program.
“We have a 15-year relationship with CEV, and are very pleased to upgrade their Full-Mission Simulator programs with Barco’s high-fidelity visual display system,” said Philippe Vanden Hende, Business Development Manager at Barco France. “The Barco system, consisting of SIM 6 Ultra II and BarcoGraphics 908 projectors and powerful system tools, features extremely high resolution and contrast ratio in order to support the demanding visualization the Tiger and Rafale require to display all-weather conditions, during day, dusk, or night.”CEV’s Tiger helicopter and Rafale aircraft simulators provide the French armies with the ability to study and assess Tiger and Rafale upgraded configurations for a wide variety of operational missions. The simulation department of the CEV defines and validates operational concepts related to the French military programs and gives technical assistance to the official government services (DGA). The full-mission simulator configuration includes a dual dome for individual pilots and other vital crew. CEV currently has three domes, one 10m and two 8m, with BarcoGraphics 801 and 808 projection systems. They will be upgraded with three BarcoGraphics 908 and one SIM6 Ultra II projection systems for the 8m domes and three SIM6 Ultra II projection systems for the 10m dome.
As part of the system solution, Barco is also supplying CEV with its LDAT, or Laser Diode Array Tool, a permanent maintenance tool used to effectively align display channels. Included with LDAT is Polaris, Barco’s pattern generating software program, which generates the test patterns needed to match the geometry of the simulation domes.
