Barco receives Excellence in Exporting Award
Xenia, OH – Governor Taft presents the esteemed 2005 Excellence in Exporting Award (E-Award) to Barco.
“Barco is honored to receive this prestigious award,” says Steve McCullough, Vice President and General Manager of Barco’s Simulation Division in Xenia, OH. “Barco has installed numerous systems worldwide. Every day, Barco systems play an important role in helping companies visualize their solutions so they can be more productive and realize bottom-line advantages.”
The Ohio Department of Development (ODOD) awarded Barco the 2005 E-Award to commend the company’s dedication and involvement in the simulation market worldwide. Barco accepted this acknowledgment alongside 29 other deserving Ohio companies. Governor Taft presented the award on June 28 at the Statehouse Atrium in Columbus, Ohio.
To meet the criteria for the award, each company demonstrated increased sales through exports, resulting in increased employment in the Ohio region. These companies also may have executed strategies to significantly increase international sales. In recent years, Barco's Simulation division has gained a strong hold on the international simulation market. This was accomplished by:
• Providing breakthrough technology, enabling global customers to contribute to some of the most significant improvements in the industry.
• Maintaining a solid hold on new, innovative technologies, which encourage future development and growth in a field with endless possibilities.
• Allowing customers the means to enhance their services by providing realistic and dependable simulation systems.
Each recipient of the award also demonstrated leadership in challenging markets with a developed team of international partners. These companies are fully immersed in all international activities including familiarizing the company to the foreign market, encouraging other Ohio companies to become involved in the operation, and executing effective marketing across the globe. Barco has managed to establish itself as a quality provider in a very difficult market. This was accomplished through education of employees, continuous technological growth, and constant interaction with industry and the marketplace.
Barco has grown to become the world’s leading designer and manufacturer of high-performance visual display systems for simulation, virtual & augmented reality, and education/entertainment applications. Products are customized and exported to clients in several countries such as CAE, Thales, and other simulation technology partners. In the past three years, Barco’s numerous and significant achievements include the Barco-SAAB partnership to provide the new innovative, compact mini-dome simulator for the most advanced version of the Grippen multi-role fighter used by the Swedish, Hungarian, and Czech Republic air forces; Barco-Kongsberg Maritime partnership to develop and implement a state-of-the-art ship bridge simulation system in Victoria British Columbia for the Canadian Navy; and the breathtaking dome theater at the Children’s Museum in Papalote, Mexico.
