Barco selected for Micro Nav 360° air traffic control simulator at Anadolu University
Eskisehir, Turkey - Barco, world leader in advanced digital visualization for the training and simulation industry, has been contracted by one of its longtime partners, Micro Nav, to implement a 360° air traffic control (ATC) tower display for Turkey’s Anadolu University. The ATC simulator will be used for long-term research, development and training projects.
Micro Nav Ltd is a specialist in developing ATC simulators, and in order to make sure it would win the bid for the Anadolu University, it teamed up with the best in each field. This included Barco for the visual display part.“The Barco ATC simulation display that was also supplied by us at NATS Heathrow was an important reference in our bid,” says Mike Male, CEO of Micro Nav Ltd, “Barco’s display system gives a feeling of total immersion, and that is precisely what we are all looking for.”
Micro Nav decided to use a ten-channel ATC display with Barco SIM 6 Ultra II projectors. These projectors have long been the mainstay of many simulators, including cockpit, ship bridge and air traffic control simulators. The 360° ten-channel setup delivers one seamless image thanks to its projectors’ specially engineered multi-channel features that not only eliminate blurry overlap zones where projections converge, but also ensure that the composite image has the same high color and brightness quality throughout. The ten SIM 6 Ultra II projectors create a high-resolution image with the required sharpness to accurately simulate real-world circumstances and objects.
In addition, Barco’s SIM 6 Ultra II natively possesses warping features that allow an image to be correctly projected across a curved screen. In this case, the screen technology is engineered by Barco as well, to make sure that each component of the display system is tuned in on each other completely.
“We are pleased with the team that we have contracted for our ATC simulator,” states Professor Mustafa Cavcar PhD, head of the Civil Aviation School in the University, “because we know that each company has an excellent reputation and a long track record of both delivering and supporting the best systems.” The University plans that the new simulator will strengthen their position as a leader in aviation training. Delivery and installation of the system will start later in 2008.
