The BARCO Galaxy sets new standards for Immersive Simulation
BARCO Simulation Extends Family of High-Brightness DLPTM Projection Technology
Barco Simulation Products, expert in large-screen multi-channel projection, is demonstrating its multi-channel optimized stereoscopic DLP™ projector, the Barco Galaxy, at I/ITSEC in Orlando, Florida. The Galaxy features high-resolution digital micro-mirror technology and an extremely powerful optical system driven by a 1200 watt Xenon lamp to deliver high quality images with an amazing 5,000 ANSI lumen light output. Many proprietary technologies, such as Optical Soft Edge Matching (OSEM™) and DLP™-optimized Passive Stereo polarizers, make the Barco Galaxy the leading product in its range for multi-channel displays.
The Barco Galaxy offers an unequalled versatility with both active and passive stereo capabilities. The Galaxy offers active stereo at SXGA up to 110 Hz, thanks to a high-performance built-in pixel map processor and dedicated DLP™ chipsets. The pixel map processor also incorporates Electronic Enhanced Stereo Separation, which ensures a complete separation between left eye and right eye image. The passive stereo optimization, with DMD™ optimized polarizers, enables large-venue 3D projection. On top of all that, an impressive 205 MHz A/D conversion bandwidth ensures compatibility with high resolution and high refresh-rate sources.
First orders of the Barco Galaxy have been placed by Trimension Systems. “The stereo separation, contrast ratio and high-resolution image clarity of the Barco Galaxy is the best I have ever seen of any of the latest DLP™ stereo projectors”, says Phil Sercombe, Sales Director of Trimension Systems. “It will definitely break new ground in applications where high resolution true color reproduction has to be combined with a high brightness level.”
A special Barco proprietary feature is the WARP 6™ pixel map processor, which can be optionally integrated in the Barco Galaxy. The WARP 6™ offers the best picture quality ever achieved using a Non-Linear Image Mapping (NLIM) processor, both in SXGA and in UXGA resolutions. This Barco feature is specifically optimized to preserve fine detail in the image and to reduce aliasing to an absolute minimum. Barco has integrated the WARP 6™ in the pixel map processor so intermediate signal conversions are reduced to a minimum and processing delays are excluded.
The WARP 6™ is also integrated in Barco’s LCD projector SIM 6 which will be demonstrated at I/ITSEC. These and other Barco products and solutions are displayed at I/ITSEC at booth number 1312.
