Barco Genesis III certified JAA Level D in HELISIM Simulator, a first in Europe for a helicopter simulator and a worldwide first for a EUROCOPTER aircraft simulator
Barco Simulation is proud to announce that its Genesis III Raster/ Calligraphic Projector has been awarded its first JAA Level-D certification, the highest accreditation for civil aviation simulators in Europe. The certification was completed by the Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA) at Helisim’s facilities in Marignane (France), where the Barco Genesis III Raster/Calligraphic projectors have been integrated in the HELISIM Simulator (FFS2 + Super Puma MK1 kit).
This JAA Level D approval, certified on March 20th, is the first one in Europe for a helicopter simulator and a worldwide first for a EUROCOPTER aircraft simulator equipped with a Thales’ visual display SpaceMagic/ThalesView and BARCO Genesis III Raster/Calligraphic projectors.

As of today, pilots training on the Helisim full flight simulator at Marignane will benefit from the leading technology of this raster/calligraphic projection system.”
“In developing the Genesis series, we focused on three key points,” said Bob Clodfelter, Director of Engineering, “reliability, maintainability, and performance.” Not only does the Genesis III offer unrivaled reliability through a fully focused digital architecture, the Genesis products are also easier than ever to maintain. “We’ve also dramatically reduced the number of LRU’s (line replacement units) and those that remain are modular. Exchange or repair can be done very quickly so uptime increases exponentially,” commented Clodfelter.
In addition, Genesis III projectors offer a performance level that cannot be matched by any other product. The Genesis III is the only product designed from the ground up to offer picture-quality resolution and scan rates up to 120 kiloHertz. This higher scan rate translates into increased calligraphic performance in both day and night mode.
