Barco Fires up Baseball Fans with New Scoring and Display Systems Across the U.S.

Logan, UT – April 12, 2004 – Barco Media is pleased to announce that over the last three months it has received orders for its outdoor LED video and scoring systems from six minor league and four collegiate baseball clubs across the U.S. Barco was also selected to upgrade the control systems of two additional clubs. With a total value of over $3 million these projects confirm Barco’s strong presence in the large-area display market.

Although the size of LED video displays is increasing, the cost of ownership is decreasing as LED technology advances and becomes more affordable. Baseball clubs at high schools, colleges, and minor and major leagues can now afford to include video options in their parks. Video displays are becoming an integral part of the fans’ experience. While the scoreboards keep the score and stats, the LED video displays provide live video feeds from cameras throughout the facility, relive spectacular moments with instant replay, enhance advertising opportunities, and advertise special in-game promotions.

Ball clubs are also becoming creative in using non-traditional events to bring fans into the ballpark for a game. One minor league baseball club, Lake Elsinore Storm, plans to show a movie on their display as part of their home opener weekend activities. “We are thrilled to be able to bring this kind of technology and excitement to The Diamond,” said Storm President and General Manager Dave Oster. “This new scoreboard is going to enhance the fan experience at the ballpark tremendously and give us the ability to take the entertainment and excitement of Storm Baseball to an entirely new level. Our fans have come to expect our capacity for bringing them major league entertainment at an affordable cost. This scoreboard is another way for us to be able to continue our commitment to doing just that.”

When the spring action begins, Barco’s outdoor LED video displays will be lighting baseball parks across the nation. New scoring and LED video display installations for minor league clubs include Greensboro Bats, Lake Elsinore Storm, Missoula Osprey, and Red Barons. Many collegiate ballparks will also enjoy the flexibility of Barco displays including Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, and Sacramento State. Controller upgrades were installed in SBC Park, home of San Francisco Giants, and Round Rock Express.
