Case study
Eurotunnel manages the use of the Channel Tunnel infrastructure by the railway companies and ensures that freight trains and Eurostars travel reliably and safely through the tunnel.
The entire Eurotunnel transport system is controlled from a single control centre, the RCC (Railways Control Centre) on the Folkestone Terminal. This manages all rail traffic (trains and shuttles) in the tunnels and on the terminals. Although the transport system is automated, controllers are in attendance 24 hours a day, ready to take manual control in the event of technical failure. The Control Centre staff get an in-depth training program, simulating critical situations, using Barco’s large display.
