SO-CDO UES Russian Power Grid
Case study
The System Operator of Russia's Power Grid SO-CDO UES is in charge of electric power supply all over Russia. The Central Dispatching Unit CDU in Moscow is responsible for coordination of all activities. The entire Russian country is split into 7 regions, in each of them the power dispatching is controlled by a Regional Dispatching Center ODU, and several attached Regional Distribution Centers RDU.
Currently SO-CDO UES is refurbishing the ODUs and RDUs, particularly substituting former mosaic walls by modern display walls. Targets are absolutely reliable and synchronized supply of electric energy all over Russia, as well as highly efficient operation.
The ODU for North Caucasus is already equipped with a Barco OverView cPG67 display wall comprising 8 x 3 projection units, as well as a training room with 3 x 2 OverView cPG67 modules. Similarly, SO-CDO UES operates a 4 x 3 Barco OverView cPG67 display wall in its central dispatching unit CDU in Moscow. More Barco display walls are already installed in other locations.
Due to more flexibility and additional features such as video insertion, operator's acceptance for the display walls is high. This combination of Hardware and Software installed in ODU allows creating the schemes for all kinds of power generating units: from separate power station or substation to the whole power grid. There is a possibility for smooth image zooming, fast navigating between the schemes and different representation levels. At miscellaneous levels the same unit can be zoomed from a small colored circle to a detailed scheme of distribution device including secondary circuits. And you can choose whatever level of zooming you need.
Thus SO-CDO UES' management decided to continue utilizing Barco display walls in other ODUs and RDUs.
