Barco to showcase new multi-functional stereo solution Active Infitec+ at SIGGRAPH
Los Angeles – Barco’s introduction of the new, innovative Active Infitec+ technology at this year’s SIGGRAPH expands the boundaries of stereoscopic projection.
Active Infitec+ is another example of how Barco innovation plays an important role in helping organizations visualize their solutions so they can be more productive and realize bottom-line advantages.“Barco’s new Active Infitec+ technology is virtually a 3:1 solution, says Ken Hunter, Barco’s Director of Sales and Marketing North America for Virtual & Augmented Reality. “This patented technology delivers excellent passive stereo, active stereo, and high-brightness mono using a single Barco Galaxy 3-chip DLP projector. And, imaging is screen independent. We'll be exhibiting the Barco Trace system equipped with Active Infitec+ at SIGGRAPH.”
Active Infitec+ is available as an option on all Virtual Reality systems equipped with Barco’s Galaxy+ family of DLP projectors. Barco display solutions, such as the relocatable stand-alone systems Trace and Deuce, custom I-Space and Holospace immersive rooms, and MoVE reconfigurable virtual environments, can now combine the superior separation of active stereo with the ease of use of passive stereo.
A special spectral filtering technology combined with the high refresh rates of the Galaxy+ projector delivers high-quality Infitec+ stereo images on a normal screen, eliminating the need for a special polarized screen.
In addition to projecting passive Infitec+ stereo, Active Infitec+ can be used for applications where active stereo is preferred or to project high-brightness, high-contrast images in mono mode. Barco’s built-in Stereo Creator enables the Galaxy+ projector to display stereoscopic SXGA+ resolution images delivered from a single-pipe Onyx IG.
Planetariums, science centers, research facilities, or other institutions can now immerse their audience in a breathtaking virtual environment using one and the same projector for mono and stereo content, on flat, on curved as well as on spherical screens. Scientists using standard active stereo to analyze complex data can now share their research with larger audiences by simply switching their Barco Galaxy+ system from standard active stereo to Infitec+ stereo viewing.
Proprietary Barco Infitec+ (Interference Filter Technology) uses high-quality color filtering technology. It splits up the color spectrum to each eye thereby providing ghost-free passive stereo images without requiring special screens or electronic glasses. The projector’s color rendering, which is modified by Infitec’s spectral filtering, is fully corrected using DynaColor. The result is superior, color-accurate 3D viewing without any ghosting and is independent of head-tilt, which gives the user full freedom of motion.
To ensure the units operate seamlessly together in a multi-channel display system, a range of dedicated functionalities is incorporated in the Barco Galaxy active Infitec+ projectors: Dynacolor eliminates channel-to-channel and left-right eye color variations, and CLO (Constant Light Output) ensures all projectors in a multi-channel system maintain the same brightness and contrast, independent of lamp life. Moreover, Proprietary Optical Soft Edge Matching allows you to achieve truly seamless blends, even in dark scenes, which also keep more detail through the unique Extended Contrast Ratio (ECR) capability.
