3D is all the rage in the entertainment industry - and this time, it’s for real. But what exactly is 3D? Why did its breakthrough come now? And is it true that some people can’t see 3D?

Will there ever be 3D without glasses?

High-resolution, realistic 3D without glasses or “autostereoscopy” is the holy grail of 3D. Previous commercialization attempts of this technology have failed due to prohibitive costs, low capabilities and lack of commercial interest. However, there are now several emerging technologies in this field that show promise, the closest being the screen of the upcoming Nintendo 3DS handheld gaming console.
