SEPTA Control Room - Barco Video Wall
Managing 340 million trips by riders living and working across a 2,202 square-mile, five-county area around Philadelphia is no small task, but the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) handles it with ease thanks to a new video wall solution by Barco and VistaCom. The new visualization platform has improved situational awareness and system reliability, and facilitated communications among all of its stakeholders to speed decision-making when seconds count.

When it came time to upgrade its visualization platform with a grant from the U.S. Office of Homeland Security, SEPTA achieved a 24/7 mission-critical solution that met all its objectives and more by working with Barco and VistaCom. Since the installation of the new LED video wall solution, the agency has significantly enhanced incident handling and transit vehicle management across the region to keep transportation systems running smoothly.

“Big picture” view essential in a crisis
“The seamless screens give us much more flexibility in how we manage video, so we can capture and display any feed or image to create a common operational picture. This is especially useful when a crisis arises and we need to coordinate with other agencies,” comments Ron Hopkins, Assistant General Manager of Operations.  “It’s proven its value many times already during inclement weather, equipment breakdowns and service outages, giving us the information we need to quickly react and effectively remedy situations.”

Seamless, fast-track implementation
VistaCom and Barco worked hand in hand to install the new solution in record time to take advantage of the federal funding – deploying the system in just four months.
