Reiser Simulation and Training selects Barco FS35 IR projectors to support the training of first responder helicopter pilots

Kortrijk, Belgium, 29 April 2016 – Global visualization leader Barco announced that Reiser Simulation and Training will equip its Full-Flight Simulator (FFS) for 4-tonne class helicopters with Barco FS35 IR projectors. Reiser selected the FS35 IR LED solution, which will be installed by project:syntropy. The planned FFS will be used for Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) training, primarily in civil urban traffic environments and in offshore scenarios around Germany.
For almost 20 years now, Reiser Simulation and Training has been providing pilots and technicians with simulation products, systems and training to sharpen their flying skills and enhance their safety while on real-world missions. In 2014, the company started construction of its first FFS. As the quality of the projection system is critical to a professional FFS, Reiser extensively trialed a series of projection solutions. The pilots and trainers unanimously chose Barco’s FS35 IR projectors on account of their very realistic performance, also when using Night Vision Goggles (NVGs).

High image quality, durable and flexible

System integrator project:syntropy, which was taken on board to set up the simulation solution, fully agreed with the choice. “Projection systems must be of high image quality and resolution, extremely durable and efficient in a 24/7 environment. Moreover, they must be very adjustable and flexible, too. Barco’s FS35 IR projectors tick all the boxes. In addition, the team provides excellent support services,” says Christoph Bode, owner and technical director of project:syntropy.

Night- and day-time vision
Benefitting from the 2nd generation ReaLED illumination technology, Barco’s FS35 IR offers excellent infrared (IR) capabilities with optics designed for IR transmission compatible with all generation Night Vision Devices. Adding to its flexibility, the FS35 IR series offers an exceptionally large dynamic brightness range fully adjustable on the RGB and IR LEDs, featuring a seamless transition from day- to night-time training. In other words: when users will put on their NVGs they will see things just as they would see them at night. Hence Barco’s 15 FS35 IR LED projectors will help Reiser’s FFS to ensure unprecedented day, night and IR stimulated simulation.

The most realistic training experience
The Reiser FFS, which will be qualified to CS-FSTD(H) Level D, will be training pilots in critical, near-ground helicopter search and rescue scenarios. The first version of the training platform will target the popular Airbus H145 helicopters (the former Eurocopter EC145T2). “HEMS pilots face challenging missions every day. We want to help them practice safe flying, under the most demanding conditions, by designing a FFS that ensures the most realistic possible training experience,” said Frank Thieser, Managing Director of Reiser Training Services GmbH – the Reiser subsidiary that owns the simulator.

“In-depth training could really make a vital difference in an emergency. With this FFS, Reiser will truly support H145 pilots to practice their skills under the exceptionally demanding circumstances they may face in real life,” added Espen Olsen, Director of Sales Simulation EMEA. “We are delighted that Reiser and project:syntropy chose our simulation projectors to ensure this immersive level of realism.”
