Barco brings powerful audio solution to the simulation market to further enhance the system’s sense of reality
Kortrijk, Belgium, 17 May 2016 – Barco, recognized worldwide as an expert in visualization for the simulation market, will demonstrate its innovative immersive audio system for simulation at this year’s ITEC event (London, UK, 17-19 May 2016). Benefiting from our IOSONO audio processor for immersive sound experiences, Barco brings the same high fidelity to audio for simulation systems as we do for visualization – something that has been long neglected, until now. A fully integrated audio and visual demonstration will showcase what audio − as it is meant to be heard − can mean for any training environment – and the tremendous added value Barco brings.
To make simulation systems approximate reality as closely as possible, you need to involve as many senses as possible. Up to now, simulation systems have largely been restricted to visualization. Barco is now adding great audio − which is of crucial importance, for example, in large simulation systems and dome setups, where the trainee cannot see the entire projection canvas at a glance. The audio cues alert the trainee as to where to look, adding substantially to the sense of realism the simulation system provides.
Unique real-time rendering system for increased simulation awareness
Barco’s IOSONO audio system has already proven its power to the market. First conceived for the cinema and entertainment market, its unique way of working makes it perfect for simulation as well. Contrary to existing approaches − which use fixed sound positioning − Barco’s IOSONO system uses real-time rendering of the sound to position it where it normally would be relative to the trainee’s position.
This brings clear value to the simulation & training market, and elevates audio to the same level of realism as video. The IOSONO Core processor ensures that all audio actually comes from the correct location. This includes moving objects, such as human-generated noise, cars, and aircraft. The sound always follows the object, no matter how fast it is travelling, providing the audio cues needed to spot objects even when they are not in visual range.
Making simulators more true-to-life
“Barco’s IOSONO system has proven its worth on the market already as a very powerful system for demanding visitor attractions and events,” says Olaf Stepputat, Director Audio Solutions at Barco. “The system’s unique way of processing, both very fast and extremely accurate, will now bring all its benefits to the simulation market. We are very excited about bringing this solution to simulation and making simulators even more true-to-life.”
Barco’s audio system will be showcased at ITEC (17-19 May, at ExCeL in London, UK). For a demo and more information, visit the Barco booth: #D120.
